The Center for American Principles joined more than 50 free-market groups and policy advocates in opposing the codification of a Most-Favored-Nation (MFN) drug pricing framework, as highlighted in a recent blog post by Americans for Tax Reform (ATR).
The coalition letter argues that codifying MFN would represent a significant expansion of government price controls, undermining the free-market principles that have made the United States the global leader in biopharmaceutical innovation. By benchmarking U.S. prices to those dictated by foreign governments, the policy would disincentivize research and development, reduce incentives for new cures, and threaten America’s competitive edge in medical advancement.
The signatories urge lawmakers to reject policies that import foreign price-setting mechanisms and instead pursue reforms that increase transparency, competition, and patient choice while preserving incentives for innovation.
