Washington, DC – The Center for American Principles (CAP) applauds
today’s re-introduction of the Patent Eligibility Restoration Act (PERA) and the Promoting
and Respecting Economically Vital American Innovation Leadership (PREVAIL) Act by
leading Members of the United States Senate and House of Representatives.
“The U.S. Constitution provides inventors and authors with a private property right to their
own work,” said CAP Policy Fellow Patrick Kilbride, “yet these rights have been seriously
eroded over time as the law failed to keep up with technological changes.” “Together,
PERA, PREVAIL, and RESTORE go a long way to restoring the Constitutional principle that
Americans have a right to own their own work, whether it results from physical or mental
labors.”
